Connie’s Story – Her Blood Work Was Normal

I’m 56 years old – is this what life is going to be like from now on? Tired, cranky and tired again. I go to the doctor(s) and am told that all my blood tests and hormone levels are in the “normal” range. Perhaps I need an antidepressant – is something bothering me – am I unhappy with something? Yes, I want to scream – I am unhappy because I feel tired all the time. Because the doctor has taken me off HRT, I am suffering debilitating hot flashes – my husband thinks we live in an igloo at night, but still the hot flashes persist. I have gone from my private physician to an endocrinologist to have my thyroid checked. I’ve been taking synthroid for about 10 years, but they (the doctors) say I’m in the normal range and they can’t find anything wrong. The bottom line as I leave their offices is they aren’t listening to what I’m saying – I almost see their thoughts about hypochondria, whiner, someone else looking for “pain” pills – maybe she’s clinically depressed.

My husband and I were on a Southwest Airlines flight and I was reading a novel. He was reading the in-flight magazines and leaned over and said “you need to read this” – it was an ad saying “Do you want to get your life back” – but the “life” had been crossed through and said “wife”. I read the article with some interest but mostly skepticism. When we returned home, my husband asked me several times if I had called about the ad. Finally I did so and told him what they said about the cost, etc. He insisted that regardless of the cost, I should go. I went to the office without any expectations above those I had received at other doctor’s offices in the past year. WHAT A SURPRISE. From the moment I walked in the door, I was treated like someone special. The staff was courteous and intent on my comfort – then when I met with the doctor, I realized he was really listening to what I was saying. In fact, he even began to tell me what I was experiencing.

It took several months to get the medications regulated, but I feel great. I now know that 56 – now 58 – did not have to feel the way that I was feeling. My hair no longer falls out, my skin is smooth and not so dry, my hot flashes have disappeared, and I don’t have to have a power nap every afternoon just to get through the day. The Hotze clinic gave me my life back and my husband loves it because he got his “wife” back.
