Alisha’s Story – Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I was not a healthy person a year ago.  For the first time, my illnesses were affecting my daily life and making it impossible to do my job.  I had been tired for a long time, and I have had stomach aches since middle school.  The migraines and body aches began in college.  At times they were completely debilitating.  I had painful periods every month.  It was so bad I threw up, blacked out and required prescriptions to help with the cramps.  It was not until the winter of 2004 that the hot flashes started.  I was a mess.  I came home from work every day completely exhausted; I never felt good.  I had been told I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and had also been told it was all in my head.  One year ago, I was only 22 years old but my body felt like it had been through 100 years of a hard life.  I was afraid that I would be completely dysfunctional as a person within a few years.  I was not going to give up without a fight!

“I had been told I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome,
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia,
and had also been told it was all in my head.”

I researched my options and, through the suggestions of friends and family, decided to call Dr. Hotze.  I was skeptical.  I believed and trusted in “modern medicine”.  I was also at the point where no one had been able to help me and I was willing to try anything.  It was not even a matter of getting my life back.  There was no back because I did not know what it felt like to feel normal.  I just needed to get my life!

The rest is history, as they say.  Dr. Hotze’s Wellness Center had an opening and I got in less than a week after I called.  As I did my phone interviews, I was amazed that they were asking me questions that no other doctor had even considered.  They were able to explain to me why I had different symptoms that most doctors overlooked.

I am at a very different place right now than I was a year ago.  The only way to describe it is that I feel…normal.  I can function on a reasonable night’s sleep with the occasional late night.  I have not had a migraine in more than 6 months.  My periods are nearly cramp-free and last only 4 days.  I found out I was allergic to wheat and that has taken care of my stomach aches and also improved my fatigue. The things causing my symptoms were a mixture of hypothyroidism, estrogen dominance, a wheat allergy and lack of nutrition.

I would not give up my bio-identical hormones for anything.  The greatest tragedy of my life would have been never knowing what it meant to feel rested; to feel healthy.  I am very lucky.  I believe that I could not have found help anywhere else.  I feel so blessed that I will be able to live a full life and be healthy for my husband, my students at school, and for my future children.  My life is now filled with energy for my life.  I am able to give to my husband and be a good teacher to my high school students.  I leave work feeling invigorated and head to the gym to work out each day.  When I come home, I eat a healthy meal, get to bed at a normal time and do it all over again in the morning.  Normal.  Normal.  I do not need an extraordinary life.  Normal is good enough for me!
