Bisphosphonates: What Sally Field Isn’t Saying about bone drugs

You may be familiar with the Boniva commercials in which spokesperson Sally Fields tugs at our heart strings by stating, “I have this one body and this one life…,” implying that Boniva is the best thing you can do to be proactive about your health and knockout osteoporosis.

Thank you, All-American-Girl-Next-Door Sally Fields! I think I’ll run to my doctor right now and ask about Boniva because Sally is right, I have this one body and this one life…Just kidding. Unfortunately, the bisphosphonates may not be the best choice for you, considering most All-American-Girls-Next-Door aren’t cutting their risks for heart disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, or diabetes, despite taking more pills than ever.

Dangerous Side Effects of Bisphosphonates

I don’t remember Sally mentioning that taking the bisphosphonates would increase my risk for fractures in general or that long-term bisphosphonate studies have shown that there is an increase fracture risk from osteoporosis after five years. Ms. Fields didn’t mention that there is an increased risk that my femur could unexpectedly snap, or that my jaw bone could decay, or that bisphosphonates actually lower the calcium levels in my blood. I don’t remember the Girl-Next-Door telling me about the joint, bone and muscle pain or the irritation and ulcers of the esophagus that accompany these drugs. She never told me about the studies showing an increase in atrial fibrillation, resulting in an increased risk of stroke, which could lead to my death.

It’s a shame that mainstream medicine still believes that the only way we can prevent osteoporosis is by taking drugs that poison our bones or entire bodies.

As for me, I think I’ll stick with natural ways to prevent breast cancer and osteoporosis such as a healthy diet, getting the chemicals out of my environment, supplementing with progesterone, and optimizing my vitamin D and iodine levels.

After all, I only have this one body and this one life.
