Common Symptoms and Causes of Adrenal Fatigue

adrenal fatigue Houston FXAdrenal fatigue can be a baffling and debilitating condition. Many people suffer from adrenal fatigue, and most suffer in silence. That is because this chronic condition is poorly understood even by many in the medical community. Adrenal fatigue often presents itself with vague and non-specific symptoms, and that makes diagnosis difficult and misdiagnosis more likely.

The fact that the symptoms associated with adrenal fatigue are often vague and non-specific also means that no two sufferers will experience the same set of bodily changes. For some the adrenal fatigue starts with vague feelings of illness, including flulike symptoms that do not respond to traditional antibiotics and antiviral treatments. For others the symptoms are much more severe, including fatigue that is so bad the sufferer literally cannot get out of bed or function normally.

Feeling Stressed Out?

Those who suffer from adrenal fatigue often find getting out of bed or waking up extremely difficult. Even though they have had a good night’s sleep, they still feel tired and fatigued. These feelings of fatigue are what give adrenal fatigue its name, but tiredness is not the only symptom associated with this increasingly common condition.

A sudden inability to handle stressful situations is another common symptom of adrenal fatigue. Men and women who suffer from adrenal fatigue often report that situations they were once able to handle are now overwhelming. Whether it is work-related stress or issues in their personal lives, adrenal fatigue sufferers often have a difficult time handling even low levels of stress.

Strangely enough, sufferers from adrenal fatigue often report food cravings, especially cravings for salty foods like nuts and potato chips. The medical community is still studying this link, but many feel it has something to do with changes in hormone levels.

A weakened immune system is another common symptom of adrenal fatigue, and sufferers may be more likely to come down with other illnesses. Adrenal fatigue sufferers may also suffer from respiratory issues, dizziness, low blood pressure, low blood sugar and sexual dysfunction. If you recognize any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible.

Treating Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue is a chronic medical condition, and as such it is unlikely to improve on its own. While many in the medical community are still confused about the causes and symptoms of adrenal fatigue, help is available.

      Dear Jodi,
One thing you can do right now is to take vitamin C, which supports the adrenal glands, and helps to reduce chronic stress and adrenal fatigue. The herb ashwagandha supports thyroid and adrenal function, as well.

When your adrenal glands become exhausted, your natural cortisol levels drop significantly. We find that by replacing the cortisol with bioidentical cortisol can help support the adrenal glands and help them to recover.
