3 Dangerous Health Trends Affecting Men

June is National Men’s Health Month, so we would like to address three of the most dangerous health trends affecting men today:

1. Heart Disease and Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs
Heart disease remains the number one killer of men, however prescription drugs such as Lipitor and Crestor are not the answer.  First of all, cholesterol is not the underlying cause of heart disease, and second, these drugs have serious side effects such as memory loss, muscle damage and weakness (including your heart), liver damage, type 2 diabetes, kidney failure and increased risk of cancer.

“Everyone, including conventional physicians, is fixated on lowering
high cholesterol levels, but in truth high cholesterol is not the underlying cause.”

“While Americans are focused on a quick fix to lower cholesterol levels, the real killer is overlooked. The cause of heart disease is inflammation and damage that causes weakness in the blood vessels.”

What you can do:
• Maintain optimal thyroid function, since hypothyroidism increases risk for inflammation and coronary artery disease.
• Maintain optimal testosterone levels, which positively affects heart health.
• Eliminate toxins from the body through detoxification.
• Eat plenty of organic fruits and vegetables.
• Supplement with vitamins and minerals (magnesium, fish oil, CoQ10, vitamin D, vitamin C and alpha lipoic acid).
• Decrease prescription drug use.
• Exercise regularly.
• Power down to power up – obtain sound sleep.

Dr. Hotze discusses the importance of cholesterol for your health:

2. Declining Testosterone Levels
Testosterone decline begins gradually in a man’s thirties and continues throughout his life. There are several symptoms of declining testosterone levels including fatigue, weight gain, lack of initiative, assertiveness and loss of libido.  Optimal testosterone levels positively affect muscle tone, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, the immune system, weight, moods, bone health, skin, libido, sperm production, sleep, as well as heart, liver and brain health.

What you can do:
The solution to restoring optimal testosterone levels is to supplement with bioidentical testosterone, which is identical to the testosterone made by your body.

3. Obesity
Obesity in men is a precursor for the following diseases: high blood pressure, adult-onset type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, colon and prostate cancer, osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, sleep apnea and depression.

What you can do:
We recommend following a yeast-free eating plan that eliminates sugar and simple carbohydrates, while adding plenty of exercise and increasing your intake of fiber. It’s also important to check your thyroid function, since hypothyroidism can lead to obesity.

We encourage men to take a proactive role in their health year-round.  Take our health assessment quiz TODAY to find out if you may be in need of hormone and vitamin supplementation, or contact our wellness consultants at 281-698-8698.
