How to Prevent and Treat Allergies NaturallyMore than 50 million Americans have experienced various types of allergies each year.

Allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic illness in the U.S.

Annual cost of allergies exceeds $18 billion.

Food allergies cost about $25 billion each year.

Allergic rhinitis, often called hay fever, affects 6.1 million of the children population and 20 million of the adult population. (1)

Right now we are in the beginning of spring allergy season. Trees, grasses and weeds are releasing pollen into the air. Allergies can really affect your health and well-being. Whether you suffer from asthma, sinus infections, or chronic cough, you know what a toll allergies can take on your body. However you should know that allergies can affect you all year long, not just in the spring.

What is an allergy?

Allergy is an abnormal reaction by the body’s immune system to normally occurring substances in the environment.

Types of Allergies
  • Airborne Allergies – Common airborne allergens include weed, grass and tree pollens, dust and dust mites, mold spores and animal danders. There are airborne allergens, specifically weed pollen, late summer and fall, tree pollens in the spring, and grass pollens late spring and summer.  In Houston, because of our wet, humid climate, we have mold spores year-round.  Dust mites, in bedding, and animal dander from cats and dogs also contribute to airborne allergy.
  • Food Allergies – Common food allergens are wheat, corn, egg, yeast, milk, soybean and coconut. Children have food allergies more often than adults. (1) Food allergies can occur to common foods, such as wheat, corn, egg, yeast, milk, and soybean, although, in an allergic individual, other foods can cause allergic reactions as well.  These common food allergies are cyclical in nature and add to the allergy load, leading to the allergy reactions and symptoms listed above.  Children with recurrent ear infections commonly have a milk allergy.  Eczema in children is commonly caused by food allergy.
  • Skin Allergies – This includes inflammation on the skin, eczema, and hives. Plants like poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac are the most common skin allergy triggers.
  • Drug Allergies – Penicillin is the most common drug allergy trigger. Up to 10% of people report being allergic to this antibiotic.
  • Latex Allergy – In the United States, about 1-6% of people have a latex allergy, and about 8-12% of health care workers will get a latex allergy.
  • Insect Allergy – People are most often allergic to bee and wasp stings and poisonous ant bites. Cockroaches and dust mites may also cause nasal or skin allergy symptoms. (1)

Natural Solution for Allergies

Sublingual Allergy Drops

You can greatly reduce and even eliminate your allergy and asthma symptoms naturally through allergy desensitization treatment. By giving the allergic individual diluted extracts of the very substances that cause the problem, the immune system will build blocking antibodies to the airborne allergens.

You will be glad to know that we desensitize you to allergens, using sublingual allergy drops, which are drops taken under the tongue.  This is a safe, effective and convenient allergy desensitization treatment which can be done in your home.  There are no injections, and instead of driving to the doctor’s office for weekly allergy shots, you can simply put a few drops under your tongue daily in the comfort of your home.

Food allergies can be treated through an elimination and rotation diet.  It is also possible to neutralize the symptoms of food allergy using sublingual food drops.

LDA (Low Dose Immunotherapy)

We also offer LDA (Low Dose Allergen Immunotherapy) at the Hotze Health & Wellness Center.  With LDA, you will be able to treat for inhalant allergy, food allergy and chemical sensitivity, with one very small injection every 10-12 weeks.  This treatment is beneficial for both children and adults.

LDA involves using a wide variety of allergens (over 300) for desensitization. Also, it is enzyme potentiated which increases the immunizing effects of the allergens. The treatment is convenient and only takes a few minutes. One to three small intradermal injections are given on the inside of the forearm like a small allergy test.

Supplements for Allergies

Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine and can be used to control allergy symptoms instead of pharmaceutical drugs. Vitamin C boosts the immune system and supports the adrenal glands. We recommend that you take 1,000 mg. per 25 pounds of body weight in divided doses, morning and evening. If you have an allergy attack, then you can increase the dose until you can control your symptoms or have stool intolerance.

Vitamin D helps strengthen the immune system and can help prevent allergies.

Probiotic Blend contains good bacteria that help improve immune function and allergies.

Colostrum Complete contains antibodies that strengthen the immune system and helps fight off viruses and bacteria.

Xlear Nasal Spray soothes and moisturizes the sinus and nasal passages, and Xylitol helps kill bacteria in the sinus cavity.

Argentyn 23 is a hydrosol silver product that works as a natural antibiotic to help kill infections. It is very effective as a nasal spray for sinus infections.

Magnesium – Magnesium helps with asthma because it is a bronchodilator. It relaxes the airways and smooth muscles and dilates the lungs. It also reduces airway inflammation, inhibits chemicals that cause spasm, and increases anti-inflammatory substances such as nitric oxide. (2)

Optimal thyroid function is key for a healthy immune system and helps improve resistance to infection. Optimal adrenal function is needed to ensure adequate cortisol production. Cortisol is your body’s naturally occurring anti-inflammatory hormone. Chronic allergies can lead to adrenal fatigue and low production of cortisol.  When this occurs, supplemental cortisol is a safe, effective and natural way to relieve the inflammation caused by allergies.

Can you relate to Heidi’s story?

“I was receiving weekly injections, prescribed Singulair nightly for asthma, Claritin daily, and 2 puffs 2 times per day of Serevent and Azmacort for asthma. I was still miserable and suffering from my symptoms. Allergy drops have virtually eliminated my allergy and asthma symptoms, and I no longer need all of the other medicine I was taking for them.”
