Reasons to Avoid Aluminum

Life is great. You start your day off with a workout, then a shower for work.  Next you fix your hair, apply your make-up and last but not least, that fresh smelling deodorant.  You wrap a snack in foil, then pack a can of soup and a soda to take to work for lunch. You know you’ve got a busy, stressful day ahead of you, so you grab your aspirin in case a headache comes on.

So, what’s wrong with this picture?  On the surface, nothing at all. But there is a dangerous ingredient lurking in your personal care products, medications and food that you need to be aware of. Aluminum. Did you know that aluminum it is dangerous toxin that you need to avoid because it can harm your health? Aluminum is everywhere in the environment, and even though it is not essential for life, increased exposure to it is resulting in a flourishing burden on the human body by causing disease. (3)

What is Aluminum?

Aluminum is a silvery-white, lightweight metal. It is the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust and it occurs naturally in soil, water and air. Aluminum can be ingested, absorbed through the skin or inhaled (especially in the case of factory workers who breathe fumes or dust with aluminum). Aluminum occurs naturally in many foods in low concentrations and is also present in many pharmaceuticals and drinking water. An average adult in the United States eats about 7–9 mg of aluminum per day in their food.

High levels of aluminum in the environment can be caused by the mining and processing of aluminum ores or the production of aluminum metal, alloys, and compounds. Small amounts of aluminum are released into the environment from coal-fired power plants and incinerators. Aluminum cannot be destroyed in the environment. It can only change its form or become attached or separated from particles. Aluminum particles in the air settle to the ground or are washed out of the air by rain. However, very small aluminum particles can stay in the air for many days.

Dangers of Aluminum

Aluminum is a widely recognized and known neurotoxin that inhibits more than 200 biologically important functions and causes various adverse effects in plants, animals, and humans. (1) It is a poison that acts on the nervous system and has been linked to several serious health problems.  Aluminum accumulates in the kidneys, brain, lungs, liver and thyroid where it competes with calcium for absorption and can affect skeletal mineralization. In infants, this can slow growth. Aluminum attacks your central nervous system. Studies show that toxic metals contribute to brain diseases by producing oxidative stress, and aluminum is one of the worst offenders.  Aluminum is linked to degenerative brain diseases.

5 Reasons to Avoid Aluminum

1. Alzheimer’s

2. Parkinson’s

3. Breast Cancer

4. Bone Disorders

5. Autism

Research shows that aluminum is a well established neurotoxin and is suspected to be linked with various neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Parkinsonism dementia, and the Gulf War syndrome. Increasing evidence suggests the implication of aluminum in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s. (1) Occupational exposure to aluminum appears to be a risk factor for Parkinson’s disease based on epidemiological studies. Elevated levels of metal have also been reported in the area of the midbrain of Parkinson’s disease subjects. (2)

Because underarm antiperspirants and deodorants are applied near the breast, they can increase your risk of breast cancer. Harmful ingredients such as aluminum are known to accumulate in the breast tissue.  Research shows that personal care products are contributors to the body burden of aluminium and recent evidence has linked breast cancer with aluminum-based antiperspirants.(3)

Research shows that aluminum is absorbed by the intestines and is rapidly transported into bone, where it disrupts mineralization and bone cell growth and activity. Because aluminum is sequestered in bone for long periods, its toxic effects are cumulative. As a result, even intermittent or low-dose use of aluminum-based phosphate binders adds to the total load of this toxin in the bone; thus, aluminum use is inadvisable. (4) Research demonstrates that the brain aluminum content is extraordinarily high in autism. The presence of aluminum in inflammatory cells in the meninges, vasculature, grey and white matter is a standout observation and could implicate aluminum in the cause of autism.(5)

Aluminum in Deodorants and Antiperspirants

aluminum-free deodorant

Deodorants allow you to perspire, but block odor by killing the bacteria that causes the odor.  Antiperspirants prevent the natural process of perspiration from occurring by plugging up the sweat ducts. Aluminum compounds have been used commercially in antiperspirants since as early as 1903.  Many deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum, which is absorbed through the skin. Deodorants and antiperspirants often contain other harmful chemicals, as well, such as parabens, triclosan, propylene glycol, and phthalates.

New Hotze Aluminum-Free Deodorant

Hotze Pharmacy has developed an aluminum-free, scent-free deodorant that is free of harmful chemicals. This proprietary formula was developed to naturally protect against unpleasant odor under the arm, as well as help to prevent irritation caused by commercially-available deodorants and antiperspirants. It is free of aluminum, phthalates, parabens, propylene-glycol and baking soda.

Hotze Natural Deodorant Has Only 2 Ingredients:

  • Magnesium Hydroxide- Neutralizes the carboxylic acid released by the sweat glands.
  • Colloidal Silver – Decreases potential bacterial growth in the underarm area.

Always read your labels so that you can avoid personal care products containing aluminum and other harmful chemicals. Contact Hotze Pharmacy at 281-828-9088 to order your aluminum-free deodorant today!

How can you reduce your risk of aluminum exposure?

Start by avoiding many of the products listed above. Always read labels. Eat a diet of organic fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. You can also do things to help detoxify aluminum from your body.  Drink lots of filtered water. Regular exercise helps flush toxins out of the body. Take milk thistle, vitamin C and chlorella. Add cilantro and organic coconut oil to your diet. High infrared saunas can help detox your body of heavy metals, as well.
