Im at a loss with suffering depression. I’ve been on antidepressants for the better part of 20 years and only getting worse. Symptoms are getting worse, weight loss, sleeplessness, too much sleep, no energy, isolation, no hope, etc., etc., etc., I feel literally like the woman with the issue of blood who has spent enormous amounts of money, time doctor visits and only getting worse. With worsening symptoms doctors only want to put me on more meds and I am so done with medication. I want off completely. I want myself back.

Dear Audrey,
We are so sorry to hear that you have been suffering for so many years. They key is to identify the underlying cause of your depression. Many things can cause this, including hormone decline and imbalance. Taking antidepressants will not solve the problem, and they are addicting drugs that have many negative side effects.
Please do not stop taking antidepressants abruptly – you must work with your doctor to wean off of them slowly and safely. A great resource to give your doctor is “The Antidepressant Solution: A Step-by-Step Guide to Safely Overcoming Antidepressant Withdrawal, Dependence, and ‘Addiction” by Dr. Joseph Glenmullen.
