Did Having Your Tubes Tied Ruin Your Life

Do you feel like you’re going out of your mind after having your tubes tied? Have you completely lost your sex drive? Are you gaining weight that you can’t get rid of no matter what you do? Do you have heavy periods, headaches, and can’t sleep? Are you just plain miserable and feel like a different person altogether? We are here to give you hope and tell you that you can get back to feeling like your old self again.

Having a tubal ligation is one of the most common procedures done by women to prevent pregnancy. If you’ve had your tubes tied, you probably didn’t expect to feel much different afterwards. However, unfortunately, many women in fact feel very different – often much worse. The reason we want to address this procedure is because it affects your hormone production and balance, and can have devastating effects on your health.

What is a Tubal Ligation?

tubal ligation

Tubal ligation, also known as having your tubes tied, involves surgery to cut or block the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy. Each month an egg is released from an ovary and travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus, and this procedure stops the egg from reaching the uterus. The tubes are either burned shut (cauterized), clamped off with a small clip or ring, or coils are placed in the tubes (tubal occlusion procedure).

What Does Tubal Ligation do to Your Hormones?

The blood supply to your ovaries is affected after this procedure, and ovarian function can be altered following a tubal ligation.(1) Since the blood supply to the ovaries is damaged during the surgery, it can cause a rapid decline of estrogen and progesterone, which are made by the ovaries. Depending upon the extent of the damage, blood supply to the ovaries may be slightly reduced or could be completely stopped. Therefore, it is not uncommon for women to experience symptoms of hormone deficiency, imbalance and premature menopause.

Symptoms of Hormone Deficiency and Imbalance After a Tubal Ligation
  • fatigue
  • hot flashes
  • night sweats
  • poor sleep
  • irregular periods
  • mood swings
  • trouble sleeping
  • loss of libido
  • anxiety
  • brain fog
  • weight gain

The US Collaborative Review of Sterilization reported increased cycle irregularity after tubal ligation. (2) Women who had a tubal ligation were 9% more likely to report hot flashes and 10% more likely to have other symptoms of menopause (such as poor sleep, night sweats, irritability, depression) compared with women who did not have a tubal ligation. (3)

Trigger Points for Hormone Imbalance

Besides a tubal ligation, there are other certain trigger points when women commonly experience the negative symptoms of hormone decline and imbalance:

• Puberty
• While taking birth control pills or counterfeit estrogen hormones
• After childbirth
• After a hysterectomy
• Menopause

How To Restore Hormone Balance After a Tubal Ligation

If low levels of hormones are causing your symptoms, then the common-sense solution is to replace those hormones with the exact hormones that were lost in the first place. By replenishing the levels of progesterone, estrogen and testosterone with bioidentical hormones, you can feel your best again. Bioidentical hormones are biologically identical in structure to the hormones produced by the human body, so a woman’s cells respond to them in exactly the same way that they respond to the hormones produced by her own body.

If you are one of the many women who are still suffering, please don’t lose hope. Take our symptom checker today to discover what could be the underlying cause of your symptoms.  Don’t wait, it’s time to get rid of those negative symptoms, feel your best, and get your life back!
